first_imgHarry Redknapp has been appointed as the manager of Birmingham City, the club have announced.The Championship side have moved quickly to name their next man after Gianfranco Zola resigned as boss on Monday evening, following the 2-0 defeat to relegation rivals Burton Albion.Zola left the Blues after just four months in charge and having claimed just two wins from 24 games.Birmingham sat in seventh place when the Italian arrived in December, to replace sacked boss Gary Rowett. They now sit in 20th, just three points above the bottom-three.And the Midlands club have turned to the 70-year-old former Tottenham and QPR boss Redknapp to get them out of trouble, with three games left to save the Blues.His first game in charge will be at rivals Aston Villa on Sunday, before hosting Huddersfield and travelling to Bristol City on the final day of the season. Redknapp last worked with Derby, where he had a role as a football advisor alongside then-head coach Darren Wassall. He was also with the Jordan national team for a two-game spell, but has since been out of management.In his last spell in the Championship, he led QPR to promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt, having also previously inspired Portsmouth to promotion.
